MARGAO: Parish Youth Nuvem blanked Navelim Sporting Club 2-0 to cruise into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Vodafone inter-village football tournament organized by Colmorod Ratvaddo Sports Club, Navelim at Rosary ground, Navelim, Wednesday. There was no score at half time.
Nuvem began on an attacking note and created umpteen opportunities but failed to convert them. Veteran midfielder Remmy Colaco played a stellar role in providing his forwards with a stream of passes.
Nuvem almost took the lead but Neves Noronha’s rasping shot was blocked by a diving Navelim goalkeeper Mohammed Muzawar.
On the other end, Navelim had an opportunity to surge ahead but striker Alvito Colaco’s rasping shot missed the mark narrowly. Nuvem had another opportunity but Joe Colaco’s rasping drive went wide.
After resumption, Nuvem continued to harass the rival defenders with forwards Neves and Remmy troubling the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. They broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when midfielder Remmy’s right-footer deflected off a rival defender and eluded the
Navelim goalkeeper Mohammed Muzawar and rolled into the net.
Spurred by the success, Nuvem piled on the pressure and tormented the rival citadel with attacks. They almost doubled their lead but Neves’ stiff shot kissed the crossbar and went out.
Stung by the setback, Navelim regrouped and nearly found the equalizer but Nuvem goalkeeper Paranjaji Joshi thwarted Alvito Colaco’s attempt with fine reflexes.
Nuvem doubled their lead in the 50th minute when Neves bulged the net off Joe Colaco.
Navelim goalkeeper Mohammed Muzawar was adjudged Most Valuable Player. Nuvem received Rs 2,000.
