PY Nuvem clinch Muriel Faleiro Trophy

Parish Youth, Nuvem crushed Betalbatim Sporting Club 4-0 to annex the 16th Muriel Faleiro memorial rolling trophy in the finals of all-Goa football tournament organised by Parrish Youth, Nuvem  at church ground, Nuvem on Sunday. There was no score at half time.
The teams began on a rousing note which kept the large Sunday crowd on their toes.
Initially, Betalbatim looked more dangerous having more scoring options. Nuvem Parish Youth, on the other hand, hardly showed any urgency and were unable to struck a rhythm.
Parish Youth, who were a subdued lot in the first half exhibited a much better performance after the break. They enjoyed the lion share of the exchanges and it took them just 15 minutes to open the floodgates when Jose Colaco beat the rival goalkeeper after he received a through pass from Nelson Colaco.
The Nuvem boys stepped up pressure and doubled the lead when Daniel Colaco scored off a solo effort.
Nuvem’s third goal came when Nelson Colaco took advantage of a rival defender’s lapse and punished the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Parish Youth drove the last nail into Betalbatim’s coffin when striker Alphon Noronha  punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Parish Youth Nuvem bagged Rs 25,000 while  Betalbatim Sporting Club received Rs 15,000.
Following prizes were also awarded. First scorer of final Joe Colaco of Parish Youth, Nuvem. Best player Desmond Fernandes of Betalbatim Sporting Club. Best goalkeeper Flyod Colaco of Parish Youth, Nuvem. Best player of the tournament Remy Colaco of Parish Youth, Nuvem. Best defender of final Cristovam Colaco of Parish Youth, Nuvem. Best player of final Denzil Rogtao of Betalbatim. Upcoming player Newton Noronha of Nuvem Sporting Club.
Earlier, Goa United Academy beat Rosary College, Navelim 1-0 in the eves match.
Promising athlete Arantaxa Mascarenhas  and  Fr Alvaro Martins, Nuvem parish priest were felicitated by chief guest, Victoria Fernandes, MLA.
Victoria gave away the prizes in the presence of Power Minister,  Aleixo Sequeira. Fr Alvaro Martins presided. Sarpanch of Nuvem,  Milagrina Mascarenhas was the special invitee.
Earlier, Cyril Andrade, president of Parish Youth, Nuvem  welcomed and later proposed the vote of thanks.
In all, 16 teams participated.
