DRAMAPUR: Parish Youth Nuvem edged past Cortalim Villagers 1-0 to enter the quarter-final of the 40th St Joseph Festival football tournament, organised by Dramapur Sports Club, at Dramapur ground on Monday.
Parish Youth Nuvem had the first chance in the fourth minute when Standly D’Mello found Gammy Costa lurking in the rival box. But Cortalim’s Hilario reacted on time to deny Gammy with a timely tackle to clear the ball to safety.
Cortalim’s Jose Lucas almost gave his side a deserving lead in the 6th minute but only to see his effort hit the post.
In the 45th minute, Inacio Colaco gave the Parish Youth Nuvem the lead off Standly D’Mello’s assist.
Minutes later, Nuvem failed to double the lead when Gammy Costa failed to connect Inacio’s through pass.
At the other end, in the 50th minute Cortalim’s Jose Lucas’ effort hit the crossbar
and went out of the play.
Parish Youth Nuvem will now meet the winners of ICSC Paroda and Curtorim Gymkhana on September 13 in the quarter final.
