PANJIM: The Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem, won the Inter-Collegiate Tennis Championship for Men organised by Goa University at tennis court, Fatorda sports Complex, recently.
Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce outplayed Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao, 2-1 in the final match.
In the final first singles, Pranay Naik of Govt College Quepem defeated Cavel Dias of Shree Damodar College 6-2. In the second singles, Samprabh Desai of Shree Damodar College outsmarted Nagbhushan Gaonkar of Govt College Quepem 3-6. In a deciding doubles, Govt College Quepem represented by Pranay Naik and Nagbhushan Gaonkar outplayed Cavel Dias and Saurabh Naik of Shree Damodar College 4-6 to clinch the title.
Chief guest Dr Rajan Mathew, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Government College, Quepem, and guest of honour Fr Jinu Abraham graced the occasion and presented medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, Shree Damodar College outplayed Don Bosco College, Panjim, 2-0 and Government College, Quepem, outsmarted Agnel Institute, Assagao, 2-0.
A total of 15 teams participated in the two-day championship. Quepem Government College team includes Nagbhushan Gaonkar, Pranay Naik, Abhishek Gaunkar, Vaibhav Rathod and Prajyot Desai. The team was accompanied by Dr Rajan Mathew.
Shree Damodar College team includes Dharmesh Gupta, Christopher D’Souza, Samprabh Phaldesai, Sourav Naik and Cavel Dias. The team was accompanied by Dewaraj Hirekurbar,
College Director of Physical Education and Sports and Saurab Raikar, instructor in physical education.
