Raia SC, Betalbatim SC move into quarters

RAIA: Raia Sporting Club moved into quarterfinals defeating Navelim Sporting Club 3-1 in the 1st Antonio Rebelo memorial football tournament organised by Curtorim Gymkhana, at DSYA ground, Curtorim, on Friday.

In an exciting match, both teams played an attacking football, Raia SC had their first chance when Garrison Fernandes missed the chance to score. 

In the second half, Navelim SC scored through Clinton Niasso in the 35th   minute to make it 1-0. Raia SC scored the equaliser through Eldon Colaco in the 39th minute.  Soon after that Raia SC scored two more goals through Garrison Fernandes in the 47th and 50th the minutes.

Garrison Fernandes (Raia SC) was given the man-of-the-match award and Nevin Pereira (Navelim SC) best defender of the match by Joaquim Gunja, vice president Curtorim Gymkhana.

On Thursday, Betalbatim Sporting Club moved into the quarter-finals defeating Sao Jose de Areal 5-4 via the tie-breaker.

Betalbatim had their first chance to score when Jesus Ferrao’s shot was well saved by Areal keeper Joseph Monteiro. Moments later, Areal striker Aryan Carvalho missed an easy chance to score. 

In second half, both teams tried to score but strikers failed. 

At the end of regulation time, both teams failed to score.

In the resultant tie-breaker, Betalbatim SC scored through Ashley Fernandes, Gladson Braganza, Oliver D’Souza, Asher Afonso and Joelan Fernandes, while 

Sao Jose de Areal netted through Myron Silva, Tyson Carvalho, Aryan Carvalho and Dreston Veigas.

Manushan Fernandes of Betalbatim Sporting Club was given the man-of-the-match award by Shailesh Prabhu, former member of Curtorim Gymkhana.
