PONDA: Raia Sporting Club entered the final of 29th All Goa St Anne’s Festival Inter-Village Soccer, organized by Ponda Footballers in association with Sports Authority of Goa and Quadros Company played at Animal Husbandry ground Curti, Ponda, on Monday.
Raia Sporting Club Raia defeated Sai Avtar Anjuna by a solitary first half goal scored by Melvin Gauncar in the 4th minute.
Raia Keeper Guilherme Gomes brought two spectacular goalline saves to take his team into the final.
Raia’s first move resulted in the only goal of the match as Oilex took the ball into the flanks and chipped into the danger zone and Melvin rushed in front of the defender and volleyed the ball giving no chance to Anjuna keeper.
Anjuna attacked as Samuel gave a diagonal pass to Rohan whose shot deflected off a defender and Raia keeper Guilherme was forced to punch the ball out for safety.
Again Anjuna attacked when Samuel got a free ball outside the danger zone and his power shot was brilliantly saved by Raia keeper again. In dying minutes, Johnny tested the Anjuna keeper with a cheeky chip shot which was saved by the alert Anjuna keeper Soma
Raia Sporting Club will meet Navelim Villagers Union in the final on July 30.
