SOLVA -RAIA: Raia Sporting thumped Betalbatim SC 5-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 49th Custodio Memorial football trophy, organised by Raia Sporting Club, at Raia village panchayat ground, on Wednesday.
Raia striker Loyd Cardozo should have netted but Betalbatim defender Klusner Pereira foiled the latter’s move in the sixth minute. Betalbatim striker Ronaldo Coelho’s long ranger failed to pop up into Raia net in the ninth minute.
Two minutes later, a free-kick taken by Betalbatim Oliver D’Souza off direct connect to Klusner Pereira who was prowling in the Raia zone, rose high and took a glancing header and made it 1-0 in the 15th minute.
Once again, Ronaldo Coelho ‘smove was foiled by Raia defender Josyel Cardozo. Young upcoming Raia striker Danny Fernandes’ shot was denied by Betalbatim cross bar in the 20th minute.
It was Raia’s Jayson Gauncar who equalised with a placement shot in the 32nd minute.
In the second half, Raia captain Llyod Cardozo changed the game plan and the Raia team fired all cylinders and netted four more goals through Jouston Barbosa, Danny Fernandes, Lloyd Cardozo and Lloyd Cardozo in the 46th, 48th, 54th and 60th minutes respectively.
The man-of-the-match award was presented to Raia SC Lloyd Cardozo by ex panch of VP Raia Caitan Fernandes.
