MARGAO: Raia Veterans defeated MPT Veterans 2-1 to sail into the quarterfinal of All Goa Chinchinim Veteran Cup football tournament organized by Chinchinim Veteran at Church grounds on Tuesday. Raia Veteran led 2-0 at half time.
Raia Veterans held upper hand in the first half and forged ahead when Vincent Barbosa scored from close range .
The early goal spurred Raia Veterans to pile on the pressure and repeatedly raided the rival citadel. Diego Olveira doubled the lead midway in the first half when he received the pass from Vincent Barbosa..
On the other hand , MPT Veterans tried their best with striker Vishant Pednekar fought alone battle up front .
After taking 2-0 cushion, Raia Veterans played at leisure at change of ends and allowed MPT Veterans to change the rhythm. They created couple of forays into the rival
territory and their efforts bore the fruits when Vishant Pednekar slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot .
Thereafter MPT Veterans to put tremendous pressure on their rivals and came close to equalizing but Raia Veterans defender were quick to avert the danger.
