PONDA: Rainer Dias, ace dirt track cyclist from Panjim won the 400-metre-time trial, Dirt Track Cycle Race, organised by Slopes and Bends in the Betoda jungles, near Ponda, on Sunday.
The time trial was part of a 22-km dirt track ride across the jungles of Betoda and Nirankal near Ponda, organised by the Ponda cycling group, Slopes and Bends.
A total of 50 cyclists from across Goa took part in the ride. Rainer rode the steep 400-metre incline in a quick 1 minute 31 seconds, followed by Panjim cyclists Ernesto Alvares who finished second in 1 minute 57 seconds and Sundaram Narayanan in 1 minute 59 seconds.
The event was supported by Escapades, the popular cycle shop from Ponda and Panaji. The participants were presented with innovative medals made from bicycle parts.
