Rajaryan finishes 3rd in Hungary

PANJIM: Ten-year-old Rajaryan Kuvelkar of Sharada Mandir High School, Mira Mar stood third at Caissa FIDE Masters International Rating Chess Tournament at Kesckemet, Hungary.

Rajaryan, who captained his school to victory last year in inter-school chess, stood among top 10 at the Nationals in successive years will be gaining 36 points in the next international rating list.

Veteran Zoltan Kovacs (rating 2075) was the top seed who could not defeat the gutsy school kid from Goa. Rajaryan came closer to beat second seed Marosi Csaba (1972) but could only manage a draw against the tough defence put up by the Hungarian.

Alise Haukenes (1655) lost to Rajaryan as the Norwegian girl could not sustain Rajaryan’s steady attack in colle system. Third seed Lazslo Zsiros (1904) also could only draw with the Goan lad.

Rajaryan will cross 1700 in the next rating list.

Rajaryan will participate in the forthcoming Prague International Open Chess Tournament from January 13.
