Rajaryan in joint second spot

Rajaryan Kuvelkar, a student of Sharada Mandir School has tallied 5.5 points and is occupying the joint second spot after the seventh round of in 'B' Group in the Prague International Open Chess Tournament, in Czech Republic.

PANJIM: Rajaryan Kuvelkar, a student of Sharada Mandir School has tallied 5.5 points and is occupying the joint second spot after the seventh round of in ‘B’ Group in the Prague International Open Chess Tournament, in Czech Republic.

Rajaryan has had a phenomenal run of in the past few rounds. He has recorded wins against Mueller Josef, Svetly Jiri (1952), Gunyecz Zoltan (1900) and Sargsjen Karen (1957). 

Rajaryan continued his run on the top table with three successive draws against all top title contenders – Simkin Alexandro (1855), FM Vorobyov Yrij (2239) and Benes Petr (2113). 

Rajaryan was trained for a brief stint by Russian Grandmaster Vladimir Chuchelov in Belgium. 

Rajaryan started indifferently in the blitz exhibition tournament at Eupen, Belgium but his comeback in the last few rounds enabled to top B Group with 8.5 points out of 11 rounds. 

GM Vladimir Chuchelov expressed satisfaction on his performance. Rajaryan is also being coached by Prasanna Sivaswamy and Raghunandan Gokhale. 

Meanwhile, CM Nitish Belurkar is on five points after seven rounds and is in the joint third position in the same category. 

WGM Bhakti Kulkarni is playing in the ‘A’ and is on four points after seven rounds.
