PANJIM: RC Goa clinched its first win in the ongoing PGML 2.0 defeating Baale Tigers by two runs in a close-fought encounter, thanks to two run-outs a two-wicket haul by the victorious team’s captain Harshad Gadekar, who was adjudged the man of the match.
In another match, Dempo Challengers defeated Prescon Panthers with a ball to spare.
In the first match of the Saturday, RC Goa scored 127 runs in the allotted 20 overs for the cost of eight wickets. The innings was powered by a run-a-ball 28 runs by Om Fadte, with Aryan Mashelkar anchoring the innings scoring a steady 22 from 36 balls. Mrunmay Das of the Baale Tigers took three wickets for 21 runs.
When the Baale Tigers took to the crease, they got off to a slow start and could not really pace their innings managing to score only 125 runs for the cost of seven wickets. RC Goa’s Nilesh Bhonsle managed to hold his nerve in the last over conceding just eight runs.
Baale Tigers is currently the only team in six-team T-20 league, which is sitting at the bottom of the table with zero points, losing all three matches thus far.
Dempo Challengers marched up the league table by defeating Prescon Panthers in a closely contested encounter.
Batting first, the Panthers put up 141 on the scoreboard before they were bowled out, thanks to a quick 35 runs by Mehul Jirage and 33 runs by Abhijit Bhandare. The Challengers’ Kiran Shirwaikar and Sazu Naik took two wickets each. When the Dempo Challengers came out to bat, they managed to secure a win with a ball to spare and two wickets in hand, following a calm 35 by Mehank Dharwadkar and fine rearguard innings of 30 not out by Dattesh Priolkar.
