PANJIM: Reliance Foundation Young Champs emerged champions of the inaugural edition of the Vedanta Youth Cup after edging past JSW Bengaluru FC 2-1, at Sirsaim ground.
It was an excellent performance from the Young Champs, who took the lead in the first half through Zidan. Bengaluru had a chance to equalise but their forward Akashdeep Singh’s effort went wide off the post.
As the second half began, the team in red doubled their lead as an in-form Nemil put the ball past Bengaluru’s Dipesh Chauhan.
Seeking a comeback the Blues pulled one back through skipper Bekey Oram with a top class finish. However, the Young Champs somehow managed to hold them off until the final whistle to clinch an ecstatic victory. Winger Thoi Singh from the winning team was awarded the man-of-the-match.
Earlier in the third place match, Tata FA got the better of hosts Sesa Football Academy by 2-0. Top scorer of the tournament Jagoi scored a brace to hand over the third place to his side. Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Nilkanth Halarnkar, Thivim Constituency MLA, Annanya Agarwal, President, Sesa Football Academy, Sauvick Mazumda,r CEO, Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore Business, and Lavino Rebello, Senior Vice President, GFA North.
