PANJIM: It’s been just two weeks since Glan Martins joined FC Goa, but the lanky midfielder has already been impressive for the Gaurs in his short time at the club. He has made just a couple of appearances so far, and marked his debut start with a brilliant strike against Mumbai City FC.
The goal has been the most talked topic so far but for the midfielder it was the decision to join the Gaurs which he still cherishes the most.
“I was really excited. Being a Goan, playing for FC Goa is like a dream come true. So when I was told that I will start I was excited, it was an opportunity I had been looking forward to for a long time,” stated Glan Martins, who is now looking to cement his position in the playing eleven.
Nothing comes easy at this level. Having players like Amarjit and Princeton Rebello would always make it difficult for Glan but this also brought out the best in him.
“I was thrilled. When I was asked by my agent as to whether I would be interested, my words were ‘yes, of course!’. My aim to join here were several – representing Goa is the biggest one in that. The philosophy and style of play suited me and I am really glad that I took the decision to come,” added Martins.
“I want to give my best, and show that FC Goa made the right decision in signing me. I am looking ahead to more games, goals and trophies with the team,” stated Glan Martins, who is likely to start for the Gaurs against Odisha FC on Wednesday.
Speaking about the goal against Mumbai, Glan revealed that it was his best goal he scored yet and said, “regarding, the goal, I would say it was my best goal yet. I have scored from distance a number of times, but nothing as sweet as this one. When I received the pass, I looked up and saw a lot of space ahead of me, so I set myself up for the shot,”
Glan has now worked with two Spaniards –Antonio Habas and Juan Ferrando in a single season. Both highly technical and technically sound and resulted oriented coaches. But having the qualities of their own, Glan has managed to find his comfort style in FC Goa which suits him better. “Everyone has their own style of play, so comparing coaches is not something I would like to do. I feel the FC Goa style suits me better as I like to play a passing game and dominate through possession,” Martins expressed.
Glan spoke highly about his latest coach Juan Ferrando and his professionalism and said, “Juan is a very detailed person and very serious about his work. He is detailed, helpful and meticulous about everything that we do. And one thing that stands out above all is his desire to win every single game. That rubs off on players and has on me as well. I really want to give my all for him and the team.”
