COLVALE: RFC Dhargal were crowned champions of the 3rd volleyball knockout floodlight tournament organised by Kshatriya Sports Club, Colvale after they defeated Om Sports Club 3 – 2 sets.
The tournament witnessed the participation of 12 teams at Colvale, recently.
The final was a neck-to-neck contest right from the start.
In the first set, Om Sports Club took the lead by winning 21-17, the second set was a close encounter as RFC came from behind to equal the game point and then won the set 23-21.
In the third set, RFC took a comfortable lead of 21-16. The fourth set was a must win for Om Sports Club and they did not disappoint as they equalised the set 2-2 by winning it 21-17.
The fifth and deciding set was of 15 points and was a close encounter till 13 points but the experienced RFC players, Ninad and Vijay played smartly to help their team emerge as champions.
RFC Dhargal were awarded Rs 8,000 cash and a trophy while Om Sports Club took home Rs.4,000 and a trophy.
The chief guest for the function was Ex- Sarpanch Nadora, Yoganand Gawas and Chairman of Goan Warriors FC, Omkar Vaigankar.
The team were divided into two groups of six teams each. Group A tcomprised of RFC Dhargal, RBD Rockers, Aroba, Our Lady of Holy Cross, 7 star Mandrem and Shining star Nigal. While in Group B the teams were Barajan Palyem, Om Sports Club, Alorna Gymkhana, Kshastriya Sports Club, Maheshwar Boys and Dadeshwar boys.
