Richard elected GVM president

State league to be launched soon

PANJIM:  Richard Vaz and Santosh P Bandodkar were unanimously elected President and General Secretary respectively of The Goa Volleyball Association (GVA) at the all-clubs General Body meeting, on Sunday.
 “All clubs had come together in a spirit of solidarity to revive volleyball in Goa as the State League and other championship were dead. Also no General Body meetings and no proper elections as per the GVA constitution were held for nearly more than two decades. Since it is the volleyball players and clubs were at the receiving end with volleyball almost dead, the clubs came together to put volleyball on the proper track.” stated Richard.
The elections were conducted by the elected chairman of general body, Jovito Lopes, a founder member of GVA and former secretary who had initiated the Senior Division, First division, Junior, Women championship and also the players registration cards.
The elections were held under the supervision of volleyball federation of India(VFI) who deputed its observer, Dr. Praveen Singh, who also checked the credentials of the participating clubs.
The clubs that attended the meeting were: Crown Club of Santacruz, Sharda Youth Sports Club, Merces Club, Jawahar Sports Club, Loutulim Gymkhana, Saipem Sports Club. 
The proceedings were held under the existing GVA constitution wherein the members have the right to vote.  He also clarified that letters were sent to Ponda gymkhana, the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), and Goa Olympic Association (GOA) who however did not turn up. 
Richard disclosed that the state league will be launched soon with registration of players.
