16th seed Rishab Naik (3) of Goa outsmarted Prabhat Kotha to meet top seed Karthikeyan Murali of Tamil Nadu on the top board, on Friday at 24th National Under-11 Chess Championship held, at Media Centre, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai.
While 22nd seed Ritviz Parab of Goa outplayed Arvind M of Tamil Nadu. They are in the joint lead with 15 other players in the Open Category.
Unrated Vagesh Tendulkar of Goa (2.5 points) stunned 70th seed Sayantan Chandra of West Bengal.
He had drawn with Cheela Naga (1585) of Andhra in the previous round.
In the girls category, Ivana Furtado had to contend herself with a draw but Gauri Keshav Hadkonkar won her match to lead with 5 others in the girls category. Gauri outshone 8th seed Srija P S of Andhra Pradesh. She meets 4th seed Meghna C S on Friday.
Other Goan results: Open section — 30th seed Nitish Belurkar beat Bhargav P of Tamil Nadu, K Tushar won against Jayeshwar Karthik to register his first win, Ameya Audi drew with Pravin Kumar, Saeesh Bandodkar lost to Sanjay K, Anant Prabhudesai lost to Madkar Aditya.
Girls sections — Aditi Prabhudesai beat Nibasa C of Andhra Pradesh and Apoorva Naik lost to Chandreya Hajra of West Bengal.
