PANJIM: Ritviz Parab of Margao got the honour of being Goa’s seventh and Salcete’s third International Master after touching ELO 2400 in live rating at the Tsaghkadzor Open Chess 2023 Tournament A held at Armenia, recently.
Ritviz drew with GM Sethuraman of India to achieve the rating. He had already completed the required third IM norm at the Abu Dhabi chess tournament recently.
Ritviz achieved his first norm of the IM title in Bangkok in 2015, followed by his second norm in 2018 at the National Senior Chess Championship held in Jammu. He had to wait five years for the third norm.
With the recent results, the player who has won many rated tournaments and has strong performances will look forward to many more achievements in the near future.
Goa Chess Association President Mahesh Candolkar, Secretary Ashesh Keni and committee members have congratulated the player and assured him support for his future endeavours.
Previous IM titled players of Goa are GM Anurag Mhamal, IM Rohan Ahuja, IM Ameya Audi, GM Leon Mendonca, IM Bhakti Kulkarni and IM Nitish Belurkar.
