MARGAO: Top seed Ritviz Parab of Salcete Taluka took sole lead after he beat PM Kantak also of Salcete to take joint lead till the round 5 of the All Goa State Fide Rating chess tournament organised by Salcete Taluka Chess association under the auspices of Goa State Association and Sports Authority of Goa, at the PJ Nehru Stadium conference hall, Fatorda.
The victory against PM Kantak put Ritviz at six points, half point ahead of Niraj Saripalli, Nandhini Saripalli & Devesh Anand Naik. Playing with black pieces Ritviz opted for Kings Indian opening and went on to win in the 40th move.
Niraj Saripalli beat Aryan Raikar on the second board in the Trompowsky opening with white pieces, Nandhini Sarpalli on the black side beat Sairaj Vernekar who played the Center gambit on the 3rd board and Devesh Anand Naik beat Lad Mandar in the London system tally 5.5 in the roster after round 6.
Reuben Colaco, Vivaan Ballikar and Suhas Asnodkar also won their respective matches to remain on 5 points from 6 rounds
The tournament has attracted a record participation of 169 players out of which 61 are FIDE rated players and the tournament.
