BENAULIM: United Club Benaulim scored a solitary goal victory over Carmona Sports Club in the Goa Football Association’s (GFA) Third Division League played at Dando ground, Benaulim, on Wednesday
Rizwan scored in the 90th minute to give UC Benaulim a solitary goal win.
Both the teams played a balanced game in the first half with United Club of Benaulim having a slight upperhand in the match while the Carmona side struggled to get the ball into the rival citadel.
The Benaulim side initiated yet another move through Rizwan passing the ball to Stanley Fernandes who rolled it over to Velington Rodrigues however the latter selfishly shot it over the crossbar.
Vellesly, Rizwan and Stanley played brilliantly in the midfield and constanly threthened the rival defence but the strikers fumbled at the goal.
At the other Stanford Fernandes, Neil D’Cruz and Alex Rodrigues worked hard to sight the goal.
Stanford made a run through the flanks and struggled through a couple of defenders before he swept a cross to Alex who shot wide, as the scores were leveled 0-0 at half time.
The Benaulim side that had the majority of attempts at the goal finally managed to find the breakthough through hardworking Rizwan in the 90th minute.
Elsewhere at Raia ground the match between Our Lady of Golria and Shiroda Youth Club ended in a 1-1 draw.
Streoencio Fernandes netted the first goal through a spot kick in the 5th minute for Shiroda while Velencio Fernandes equalised for Gloria in the 35th minute.
In another match at Curtorim ground, St Anthony Sports Club Assolda thrashed Chandor Club 8-0.
Joel Fernandes opened the scoring for St Anthony’s SC in the 3rd minute and doubled the lead the 19th minute. Post resumption, Jaison Dias netted four goals for St Anthony’s SC.
Joesm Vas also added his name to the scoresheet.
