Rosary, Carmel HSS win OORJA crowns

PANJIM: Rosary HSS scored a thrilling 3-2 win over Dempo Sports Club to lift the Bernard Pereira Cup for the OORJA U-19 boys’ tournament, played at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim, on Wednesday.

PANJIM: Rosary HSS scored a thrilling 3-2 win over Dempo Sports Club to lift the Bernard Pereira Cup for the OORJA U-19 boys’ tournament, played at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim, on Wednesday. 
The South Goa team outplayed Dempo SC as Darren Peixoto scored a brace. 
Rosary scored in the fifth minute through Darren while Dempo SC restored parity through Sarineo Fernandes in the second quarter.
The Golden Eagles were denied by brilliant goalkeeping by Dylan, who stood tall to frustrate the North Goa side.
Both teams restricted to midfield battle for the second quarter.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the break.
Crossing over, Rosary were a different team as they attacked from the word go.
The South Goa team showed pace and skills to edge out the Panjim side.
Precio D’Souza gave Rosary the lead in the second session and Darren made it 3-1. However, in the dying minutes of the game, Stewart De Mello reduced the margin for Dempo SC.
In the girl’s category, Carmel College, Nuvem registered a solitary goal win over St Xaviers HSS, Mapusa to lift the Yolanda De Souza Trophy for girls U-19 title. 
Jenicia D’silva scored the only goal of the match for the winners.
St Xavier’s tried their best to get back into the game but they couldn’t break the resolute Carmel defence.
Sports Minister Babu Azganokar was the chief guest for the final and gave away the prizes in the presence of other dignitaries.
