PANJIM: Rosary College, Navelim with a team tally of 42 points claimed the men’s championship whereas Government College, Quepem with a team tally of 14 points won the women’s title respectively at the Goa University Cross Country championship, held recently.
Government College, Quepem with a tally of 62 points claimed the runners-up position and Mallikarjun College, Canacona with a tally of 90 points secured the third position in the men’s event respectively.
In the women’s section, Mallikarjun College with a tally of 29 points won the runners-up position and Rosary College, Navelim finished third with a tally of 50 points.
In the men’s section Sandesh Gaonkar from Mallikarjun College, Canacona finished first clocking 42:13 minutes, followed by Michael Mwaniki of Rosary College in the second spot and Vincy Fernandes of Governmetn College, Quepem in the third spot.
In the women’s event, Sandra Carvalho from Government College, Quepem clocked 20:52 minutes to finished first, followed by Sunita Velip in second from Mallikarjun College, Canacona and Krishma Velip in third spot from Government College, Quepem.
The race was for a distance of 12 km for the men and 5.5 km for the women. It commenced opposite St Andrew High School, Goa Velha and moved on through the green and beautiful villages of Batim and Santan to finish at Fr Agnel College, Pilar.
Fr Fredrick Rodrigues, Principal of Fr Agnel College, Pilar was the chief guest and presented medals and trophies to the winners.
