PANJIM: Rossman Cruz Sports Club Nagoa-Verna emerge victorious defeating St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim, 3-0 in the finals of 23rd Vagator Soccer organized by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club ground, Sunday.
St Anthony’s SC created a chance in the very first minute as a shot from Dalesh Pednekar from outside the box was put away by Rossman goalkeeper Savio Pereira.
St Anthony’s were awarded a 30-yard free kick in the 21st minute. Vipul Pednekar sent a floater to Pushparaj Mandrekar whose header was brilliantly saved by Nagoa-Verna custodian Savio Pereira.
Rossman took the lead in the 40th minute. A square pass from the left flank from Desmond Pereira went to Cyrus Noronha who slotted it in.
St Anthony’s created two chances in the 45th and 56th minutes. First, Dalesh Pednekar’s shot hit the woodwork and later, Pushparaj Mandrekar failed to convert a sitter.
Andrus John of Rossman had an opportunity to double the lead in the 64th minute. He flicked it over Siolim goalkeeper Francis Fernandes but it hit the post and was later saved by the goalkeeper.
Rossman scored their second in the 66th minute as substitute Imamsab Guled’s header found the back of the nets through a little deflection. In the subsequent minute, Imamsab delivered a beautiful through pass to Andrus John who scored.
Rossman won Rs 80,000 plus a trophy. St Anthony received Rs 60,000 plus a trophy.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Man-of-the match – Savio Pereira (Nagoa-Verna). Best striker of final – Imamsab Guled (Nagoa-Verna). Best midfielder of final – Desmond Gama (Nagoa-Verna). Best defender of final – Noel D’silva (Nagoa-Verna). Best goalkeeper of final – Savio Pereira (Nagoa-Verna).
Best striker of tournament – Dalesh Pednekar (Siolim). Best goal of tournament – Tannay Mapshekar (Vagator PYSC).
Prizes were awarded by chief guest MLA Delilah Lobo, guest of honour Shivshankar Mayekar, Dinesh Patil, GFA President, Caitano Fernandes.
