Rousing welcome for taekwondo team

VASCO, FEB 1
The proud Goan Taekwondo players, who made India proud at the recently concluded 5th Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships in Chennai were accorded a warm welcome on their return at Dabolim Airport on Tuesday.
The Indian contingent that emerged champion among 13 nations wining 75 medal (21 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze), had 10 Goan players, who bagged eight medals – three gold, three silver and two bronze.
Indian team coach Sunil Sharma along with his proud players – Aman  Kumar , Angela Naik and Elizabeth who bagged goal for Goa, Tanvi Nadkarni, Sagar Palconda and Carlos Lawrenco silver medalists, Dingku Singh and P Anand bronze medal winners were accompanied by Taekondow Association of Goa president Raju Mangeshkar and secretary Deepak.
The Goan contingent was given a rousing welcome by family members, sports administration officials and taekwondo fraternity, prominent amongst them being Goa Olympic Association secretary Gurudatta Bhakta, SAI-in-charge Goa, Surendar Rajput, Ashraf Pandyal, coach Teofile Lowe, Oscar Luis, Mahadev Chavan and others. 
“We are very pleased with the performance of Goan players as they made their country proud among Commonwealth nations with their spectacular performance,” said TAG president Raju Mangeshkar.
“Chief Minister Digambar Kamat congratulated the team for its fabulous performance,” said Mangeshkar.
Indian team coach Sunil Sharma, who is SAG coach based in Goa, said that with dedication and hard work the players had managed to get such a wonderful performance.
“It was a though, competition but the Indian team managed to clear all hurdles,” added Sharma.
