MARGAO: Canacona Sports Academy blanked Cortalim Sports Club 2-0 to romp into the quarter-finals of South Goa Zilla Parishad Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Parish Youth, Nuvem, at church ground, Nuvem, on Monday.
There was no score at lemon break.
Both the teams started the game on an attacking note but the rival defenders stood tall in protecting the citadel intact.
After the break, Canacona Sports Academy were a transformed side and trouble the rival defence with sporadic raids. Persistent foray paid off the dividends and midway in the second half striker Ryan Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot.
With the early success, Canacona intensified their attacks and doubled the lead when Allwyn D’Souza punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Earlier, Daya Pagi along with Cynthia D’Silva, Zilla Parishad members from Canacona and Cortalim Constituency inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Nelly Rodrigues and Wilfred D’Sa, chairperson and vice chairperson of South Goa Zilla Parishad.
