NAVELIM: Two second half strikes from Ricardo Carvalho and Gavin Araujo was all the difference as SAI Veterans sneaked past a gritty Quepem Veterans 2-0 to enter the final of the 40+ competition of the GVFC football tournament, at the Sinquetim ground, on Wednesday.
With both teams tied goalless at the half-time whistle, it was Carvalho’s opportunistic strike deep into the second half that opened the scoring.
Araujo then curled in a left-footed shot just before the end of full-time to ensure SAI set up a meeting in Sunday’s final against Verna Veterans.
SAI Veterans were lucky, especially in the second half as Quepem struck the framework on at least three occasions.
SAI Veterans celebrated these escapes with their focus intact and found the Quepem goal much against the run of play.
Edith’s power-packed try was parried away by Freolon, and went straight to the Carvalho who nodded home for the opener.
SAI pushed for a second and deservedly got it when Gavin Araujo moved on the right and curled in a left-footed beauty to make it 2-0.
