MAPUSA: Saipem SC managed to register a 6-5 win via the tie-breaker over United Boys of Camotim to advance into the semis of the Candolim inter-ward football tournament organised by Young Boys of Aradi, at Candolim ground, on Sunday.
Sachy tapped the ball into the net of a low cross by Jose to put Camotim ahead. In the 6th minute Daniel Soares dribbled past the Saipem defenders and placed the ball into the goal after beating the onrushing goal keeper to make it 2-0.
As the match progressed Saipem got their acts together and scored twice. In the 22th minute Saipem were awarded a penalty when Camotim defender Nikhil Naik handled the ball inside the penalty box. Paul Cardozo stepped forward and scored 2-1.
Just two minutes later Saipem equalized from a final brilliancy from Samford Barreto, 2-2.
On crossing over, Camotim once again took the lead in the 37th minute as Clive guided the ball into the goal off a perfect cross by Jose, 3-2. However in the dying minutes of play Mahadev Bandodkar scored a gem of a goal for Saipem to make it 3-3. In the tie-breaker Saipem SC proved to be better shooters.
