MARGAO: Sairudra Nagvenkar (1422) of Bardez Taluka beat Edrick Vaz in the seventh round,Asmita Ray in the eighth round and Joshua Mark Telles in the final round to emerge champion with unbeaten 8.5 points in the Late Premlata Omprakash Agarwal All Goa Open Rapid FIDE Rating chess tournament.
The tournament was held under the auspices of Goa Chess Association and All India Chess Federation and conducted by Salcete Taluka Chess Association and BPS Sports Club,Margao.
Nagvenkar was seeded ninth. He bagged a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a trophy.
Second seed Reuben Colaco (1857) of Salcete beat Asmita Ray in the seventh round who beat Rachel Pereira in the eighth round and drew with Rishikesh Parab in the final round to emerge second. He bagged Rs. 7,000 and a trophy.
Rishikesh Parab (1472) of Mormugoa settled for third after beating Diya Sawal in the seventh round, who beat Shubh Borkar in the eighth round and drew with Reuben in the final round. He won a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 and trophy.
Atharv Katkar (1217) of Salcete beat higher seeded Aryan Raiker (1469) in the seventh round and drew with top seed Niraj Saripalli in the eighth round and won against Anvesh Bandekar in the final round to emerge fourth.
Fifth to tenth positions Edrick Vaz,Asmita Ray, Rachel Pereira ,Niraj Saripalli,Paarth Salvi and Joshua Mark Telles. Eleventh to twentieth ,Aneesh Naik,Aryan Raikar ,Shubh Vishnu Borkar,Alex Sequeira ,Aryavrat Rasiket Naik Desai,Madhavan G. ,Ekka Aniket ,Kiran Chopdekar,Shriya Patil ,Saras Summer Powar.
The best unrated player trophy went to Naksh Arsekar of Salcete, best Veteran to Sami M of Andhra; best female U-15 Dwinnie Fernandes.
The Chief arbiter of the tournament was FA Ashesh Keni assisted by FA Jostna Saripalli ,FA Asha Shirodkar and NA Sudhakar Patgar and Ridikesh Vernekar. The prizes were distributed by Chief Guest Vijay Sardesai, MLA of Fatorda constituency in the presence of Ashish Malviya, Regional Head Union Bank of India, guest of honour Rakesh Agarwal MD of Prakash Packaging Ltd, Mr.Santosh George President of BPS Club, Mr. Ashesh Keni ,Secretary ,Goa Chess Asssociation,Dilip Vernekar ,Treasurer STCA,.Damodar Zambaulikar ,Vice President proposed a vote of thanks.
