Salgaocar colts U-14 South Zone champs

Demolish A A De Majorda 7-0; Kenneth nets a hat-trick while Ryan, Jobern, Melroy and Zidane score one each

MARGAO: Salgaocar FC Juniors won the Under-14 GFA League South Zone final to emerge as the South Goa champions demolishing A. A. De Majorda 7-0, at Navelim ground, on Monday.
Kenneth Da Costa netted a hat-trick, while Ryan Fernandes, Jobern Cardoso, Melroy Borges and Zidane Fernandes scored one each.
It didn’t take too long for the Greens to make their intentions clear. Kenneth was the first to strike in the very third minute after kick-off.
The goal came after Fraser Viegas made a delightful run from the left to cross the ball in to the Salgaocar striker, who made no mistake of finishing the job. This wasn’t enough as the Salgaocar lads had quite a few chances before they were to double their lead.
The second goal came in the 19th minute after Anthush Moniz made a run into the opposition box beating the defenders before he passed back to Ryan who calmly slotted the ball past the Majorda custodian. The Majorda side was given much time to organise as just two minutes later Meldon Oliviera ran down the left flank to find the boy in form Kenneth as he scored his second and Salgaocar’s third.
The final goal of the first half was scored by Jobern from an Anthush’s corner. As the kids headed back in, the score stood 4-0 in favour of the Greens.
The second half started off with Kenneth completing his hat-trick just five minutes of play.
The Salgaocar lads then restricted the game to the midfield and tried keeping possession for a majority of the game. This also frustrated the Majorda lads as they cracked under the pressure and conceded another via Myron. Zidane made the final score 7-0 after he scored from Kenneth’s free-kick as it bounced off the keeper in to his path.
Present at the game was the club’s General Secretary Adlear D’Cruz and Schubert Furtado, chairman of Competition Committee and Vice-President for Goa Football Association, South.
