MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club registered their straight eighth win as they downed Churchill Brothers Sports Club by a commanding 4-1 margin in the Goa Professional League match, organised by Goa Football Association, played at Duler Stadium, here on Tuesday.
Devendra Murgaonkar opened the tally for Salgaocar, while Willis Plaza equalised for Churchill in the first-half, while an own goal from Suraj Singh, and goals from Joel Sunday and Rosario Mendes in the second session helped them to earn full points from the match.
In the 20th minute, U-20 striker Devendra Murgaonkar easily cut past right-back Israil Gurung in the box and shot past Churchill keeper Kithan to make it 1-0 for the Green Brigade.
Nigerian forward Joel Sunday had the best chance to increase Salgaocar’s lead in the 33rd minute but the striker failed to control his shot from close after getting a perfect curler from Devendra.
At the other end, Churchill’s Trinidadian forward Willis Plaza superbly controlled the floater from Francis before easily cutting past Salgaocar’s two defenders and blasted the ball into the net from close to make it all square for the Green Brigade.
On changing the ends, U-20 Devendra wasted an easy chance to put Salgaocar into the lead in the 56th minute when he failed to put power in his shot from just inside the box as the Churchill keeper Kithan easily collected the same.
However, Salgaocar surged ahead in the 59th minute when Suraj intercepted Devendra’s cross to Nigerian Sunday but the clearance finished in his own net to make it 2-1 for the Green Brigade.
They further extended their lead in 78th minute when Nigerian striker Sunday smartly finished the ball
in the net from close off Devendra’s brilliant through pass from the top of the box.
Skipper Rosario scored the fourth goal for Salgaocar in the 84th minute when he tapped the ball into the back of the nylons off Clencio Pinto’s fine low cross from the left flank.
