The Greens walk into their fixture on Sunday against Aizawl on the back of a 0-1 defeat against Shillong Lajong. Fabio scored the only goal for the Reds as they shut out desperate attempts by Salgaocar’s attacking force and denied them a result.
Salgaocar FC has looked dangerous in attack in their last four games. They have scored four times but have conceded seven times. The onus will be on Jackichand Singh, Darryl Duffy in attack and skipper Karanjit Singh in goal to take responsibility and put out a top shift.
Salgaocar are still in search of their first point of the season. Santosh Kashyap will have a task on his hands as it looks like yet another relegation battle is on the cards for the Goan side. The main agenda will be to get the midfield and defense up to satisfactory levels of performance after the above contingents have largely disappointed in their four outings.
The visitors, Aizawl FC, will be out to grab their second Goan experience of the season as they play at Tilak Maidan against Salgaocar.
In their previous outing, the I-League newbies lost 2-0 to Sporting Clube de Goa. Goals from Nicholas Fernandes and Loveday Eyinnaya ensured that the Flaming Oranje picked up their first win.
They put up an impressive display in the second half but failed to beat Arindam Bhattacharya. Manuel Retamero was left furious at the end of the game and will look to make amends this time around.
It will be interesting to note how Aizawl respond to their slow start to the season.
