Mormugao United tried to take an early lead as Xavier Borges collected the ball from Cliff Barretto but his powerful grounder was palmed away to safety by the Salgaocar FC goalkeeper for a corner kick.
Minutes later, the Greens created an opening but Naro Hari Shrestha’s effort was saved by the diving goalkeeper Sumin Borkar of Mormugao United after being fed by Myron Borges.
As the match progressed, Xavier Borges set up Cliff inside the penalty area in the 23rd minute but Salgaocar FC defender
Samuel Costa cleared the ball to safety.
Crossing over, the teams tried hard in search of the opener.
Goalkeeper Sumin Borkar was rock solid with at least six crucial saves as Myron came close to scoring in the 50th minute.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 61st minute as Myron’s grounder deflected off Tanvir.
There after, Salgaocar FC grew in confidence as Naro Hari Shrestha and Myron had a go in the 76th and 79th minutes respectively.
Myron was left frustrated in the 80th minute as Tanvir came up with a goalline clearance to deny the striker his brace.
In another match, at Chicalim ground, Rising Star SC defeated Baina Youth and Recreational Club 3-2.
Rising Star took the lead in the fourth minute through
Alvapan Mandar while Abijit Chandra doubled the advantage in the 43rd minute.
In the second half, Mahesh Honavar made it 3-0 for Rising Star in the 58th minute while Shawn Pereira pulled a goal back for Baina YRC in the 62nd minute and Cleney Dias made it 2-3 in the 75th minute.
