Salgaocar FC now go to the second position in the league table with 24 points from 11matches while CSM Taleigao stay rooted at the bottom of the table with 3 points off 13 matches.
It was Salgaocar who had the upper hand in the entire proceedings, pinning their rivals in their own backyard.
At halftime the winners led by a 1-0 margin with James Fernandes scoring in the 37th minute of play.
In the opening minutes of the match James Fernandes sent a pinpoint cross to unmarked Asheer Akhtar who surprisingly headed the ball out.
CSM Taleigao came close to breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute when Salu Santos directed his cross towards Sherwin Lobo however before the striker could do any damage Salgaocar’s Asheer Akhtar warded off the danger.
Thereon Salgaocar FC stepped up the tempo of the match and initiated a series of raids, where first substitute Clencio saw his firm header miss the CSM Taleigao goal by a whisker and then minutes later his shot from inside the 18-yard box struck the woodwork.
The constant pressure finally paid off in the 37th minute of play when Keita Boubacar set up James Fernandes who charged into the Taleigao danger zone and unleashed a hot blooded shot which entered the nets after grazing past the hands off keeper Rohan Sheikh, 1-0.
In the last five minutes of the first half Taleigao keeper managed to come with two quick saves to deny Liston Colaco and Clencio Pinto from further increasing the margin.
At the other end Sherwin Lobo set the ball on platter to Octavio Miranda who wasted the goal scoring opportunity to the dismay of his teammates.
Crossing over, Salgaocar FC continued from where they had left and kept up the pressure on their rivals and managed to find the back of the nets in the 55th minute from the penalty spot after referee Prasad Surlekar found Taleigao’s Krishnanath Shirodkar guilty of handling the ball inside the penalty area. Keita Boubacar who stepped forward ensured that he scored, 2-0.
