MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club got their act together in the final ten minutes as they rallied to surprise Dempo Sports Club 3-1 in AIFF’s U-19 I-League (Goa Zone) at Sirsaim ground, here, Friday.
Dempo led at the breather through a goal from Clencio Pinto but it was their opponents who crawled their way back into the match in the final quarter. Aliston Mendes equalized for Salgaocar while Raymond Fernandes’ quick brace sealed three points and a second successive victory for The Green and Whites. Dempo suffered their second defeat in as many matches.
An intelligent through ball by Dempo’s Sahil Tavora to Nikhil at the right flank saw the latter cross the ball perfectly to Clencio, who tapped the ball past Salgaocar keeper to make it 1-0.
On crossing over, Dempo keeper Shilton Fernandes produced with two brilliant saves to deny Albino from scoring. However, the tide changed in the final ten minutes.
In the 80th minute, Aliston got hold of a through ball, cut past a rival defender and then slotted the ball neatly past the rival keeper, 1-1. Subsequently, Raymond scored two brilliant goals in the 85th and 90th minute from well executed free-kicks from outside the penalty box.
