MAPUSA: Salgaocar FC Juniors registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Goa Velha Sports Club in the GFA’s Geno-First Division League match at Duler Stadium, here on Thursday.
Salgaocar were leading 1-0 at the breather through Jeniton D’Souza while Steflon D`Costa and Fhezer Gomes found the net in the second half.
It was Goa Velha who had the first attempt in the 12th minute when Irfan Yadwad`s well struck shot missed the target by inches. Irfan should have put Goa Velha ahead in the 21st minute but only with the keeper at his mercy fluffed his lines from a dangerous cross send in to the box by Lakesh Gawas.
Salgaocar were on the backfoot for most part, created a decent chance in the 30th minute but Steflon could not kept his shot goal wards from a neat build up play between Fhezer Gomes and Steflon D’Costa.
Akram who was deputising for first choice keeper Soma Korgaonkar was at fault for Salgaocar`s first goal in the closing minutes of the match as he let Jeniton D`Silva`s feeble shot enter the net off a pass from Fhezer, 1-0.
Green Brigade consolidated their lead in the 49th minute of the second half when Valentine Nazareth passed the ball to Fhezer whose clever dummy found Steflon who beat the advancing Goa Velha keeper Akram with a firm grounder, 2-0
Fhezer Gomes sealed the match and full three points for Salgaocar in the 60th minute with a majestic finish after a neat build up play with Steflon.
Salgaocar’s Steflon DCosta received the man of the match award from the hands of Dr. Fenton D’Souza.
