Salgaocar Jrs, Cortalim Villagers secure win; Sporting Clube get walkover

FC Goa, Guardian Angel’s match called off as keeper fractures hand; moved to hospital in private cars as no ambulance service provided

MAPUSA: Salgaocar Jrs managed to edge past Futebol Club YFA Jrs by 2-1 margin in the GFA’s U-15 (First Division League) match played at Guirim ground, here, on Sunday.

Salgaocar Jrs took the lead in the 12th minute through Andreas Furtado while three minutes later Elrad Braganza equalised for Futebol with neat placement, 1-1.

Just seven minutes into the second session and Salgaocar’s Daiwik Darshan scored the winning goal 2-1.

This year GFA’s U15 league is being conducted with 9-a-side format, with 30 minutes each session.

In the next match, Cortalim Villagers Jrs had an easy outing as they drubbed Pax of Nagoa Jrs by 3-0 margin. Cortalim lads went into the breather through Amiro DeMello goal. On crossing over, Raju Lohra and Shamsul Khan added their names to the scorers list. 

Sporting Clube de Goa Jrs received a walkover as Geno FC failed to report for the match. FC Goa were leading by 5-0 margin against Guardian Angel SC when the match was called off by the Referee Pravin Naik due to injury to Guardian Angel’s goalkeeper, a minute before the end of the first session. 

Guardian Angel’s goalkeeper Dikshant Betodkar having fumbled in his collection saw FC Goa striker hit the ball and in the process goalkeeper fractured his hand. The keeper lay in pain on the ground waiting for the arrival of an ambulance which never turned up and after receiving first aid from the physio, the goalkeeper was shifted to the hospital in one of the Guardian Angel team member’s private car.

Guardian Angel’s Team Manager Oswin Rodrigues requested the Referee Pravin Naik and Match Commissioner for an ambulance, which they stated that it was the responsibilities of the teams.

Rodrigues told Referee Pravin, “If the ambulance and stretcher boys were not summoned for the safety of the players they will not continue with the remaining part of the match.”

Later, Referee Pravin called off the match.

Jonathan D’Souza, GFA’s Vice President (North), stated that this year GFA are organising 240 matches in U-13 Div 1 and 240 matches in U-15 Division 1. Then in Division 2, there will be another 100 matches each in Div 1 and Div 2, so there will be 700 matches in U-13 and U-15.

Jonathan further said that it’s financially not possible to arrange ambulance for so many matches. This season we will cross 2000 plus matches, where at times we conduct 15-16 matches per day, and to provide ambulance to Third Division, Second Division and then all the age group matches will not be feasible. However, he stated that it was mandatory for the teams to have their own physio.
