Salgaocar Jrs hold AIFF

MARGAO: Having qualified from the Goa zone and securing a place in the final leg of under-19 I-League to be played later in the year, Salgaocar Juniors dished out another impressive performance holding table-toppers AIFF Elite Academy to a goalless draw in the final league match played at SAG ground, Cuncolim, on Wednesday.

With this draw, Salgaocar finished their league engagements in the second place with 14 points. The match was played at a fast pace from the outset, with attacks at either end. Both the goalkeepers were outstanding, in particular Chinmaya under the Salgaocar bar. Defender Samuel Costa was responsible for keeping the AIFF Elite Academy strikers at bay.
Chinmaya was called into action early and he pulled off a spectacular save from a lob after being in a one-to-one situation with an AIFF Elite Academy striker.
The Greens came close to score, however, Stefen Fernandes was intercepted in the goal area.
The second half started where the first half ended with both the sides intent on going for the winner. The half was extremely physical with plenty of challenges flying in but neither were able to break the deadlock to finish the match goalless.
Salgaocar Juniors, have all-Goa final in GFA Third Division League to look forward to next, as they take on Portais Sporting Club on February 18. The Greens have remained unbeaten in the league and have already secured promotion to the Second Division for season 2015-16.
