PANJIM: Salgaocar Football Club scored a last-gasp winner to beat Velsao Sports & Cultural Club 2-1 in the Goa Football Association at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Thursday.
Sidharth Kundaikar netted a 90+3rd minute match-winner after his teammate Chaitan Komparpant scored a 83rd minute equaliser to cancel out James Fernandes’ 74th minute lead.
Salgaocar FC had not many opportunities in the first half. Stephen Alvares and Daryl Costa came close to scoring for the winners but first Stephen saw his shot narrowly miss the mark while just before the break, Stephen then set up Daryl from a setpiece but the latter went on to stylishly finish, who missed the target.
In the second half, Velsao started brightly where Cyrus Noronha was denied by Salgaocar keeper Jason D’Mello and then he also dived full length to ensure James’ shot doesn’t enter the goal.
However it couldn’t stop Velsao from scoring for long. Velsao broke the deadlock in the 74th minute when James intercepted Salgaocar Saurabh Patil’s pass and covered some distance and coolly scored to make it 1-0.
However, Salgaocar FC managed to get the equaliser in the 83rd minute when Chaitan Komarpant dribbled past couple of rival defenders and scored to make it 1-1.
In the stoppage time, Salgaocar scored the winner through Siddharth Kundaikar, where he headed in Selwyn Miranda’s delivery.
