Salgaocar too good for Goa Velha

With a beautiful brace from S Subhash Singh, Salgaocar SC kicked off their campaign securing full three points in GFA’s Kingfisher Professional League, defeating Goa Velaha 3-0 at Tilak Maidan here on Monday.
Salgaocar were ahead with two quick goals by the 20th minute from Francis Fernandes and Subhash Singh, while Singh completed his brace in the second half.
Salgaocar opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Francis Fernandes following a pass from Dawson Fernandes. Six minutes later striker Subhash doubled the lead following a solo run.
The scorecard could have been different if Beevan D’Mello, Francis Fernandes and Subhash Singh had shown some clinical finishing in the second half, when three sure chances went abegging.
Singh, however, swelled the lead in the 83rd minutes, after receiving a pass Beevan D’ Mello. Singh tacked defender Stanley D’ Silva and goalkeeper Agnelo Noronha with ease.
Though, Salgaocar got full points, coach Karim Bencharifa was concerned about poor finishing and the level of stamina of his players. However, he was confident that as the league progresses everything will fall in place.
Karim felt that lack of coordination among the team members was evident, but he said that as the players get more practice, everything will be in perfect order.
He was very happy that the team had gained three points from the very first outing.
Goa Velha coach Lino Pereira opined that conceding two quick goals in the first half had demoralised the players who found it difficult to bounce back. Lino was happy that his team had put up a better show after the break when they gave in just once.
“Our team will improve with every outing,” Lino added.
