MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club overpowered Dempo 3-0 in a GFA under-20 Taca Goa First Division League football match at Sangolda ground, Sangolda, Tuesday. Salgaocar led 1-0 at half time.

Salgaocar remain unbeaten in five games with 15 points while Dempo have collected 10 points from six outings.

The match began with Salgaocar making several forays, but a disjointed forward-line hardly helped their cause.

Sunny Fernandes had a real chance to put Salgaocar ahead in the 10th minute, but his powerful effort was blocked by Dempo goalkeeper Adney Fernandes.

Dempo had their share of chances but their strikers lacked sharpness upfront. Myron Fernandes, instead of having a crack on goal inside the box, squared the ball to his teammates only for a rival defender to intervene.

At the other end, Salgaocar enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession and created better chances. They surged ahead in the 37th minute after Dempo goalkeeper Adney’s clumsy clearance landed to Salgaocar’s Rayman Fernandes, who cleverly chipped over the out of position Adney from 30 yards.

Just before half time, Salgaocar could have inflated their lead but Albino Pereira’s close ranger was parried away by the rival custodian. Subsequently, Albino’s powerful header sailed inches over.

After resumption, Dempo started with a sense of purpose but they found it hard to penetrate through the rock solid rival defenders, which left them frustrated.

As the game became frantic, Salgaocar once more gained the initiative when Rayman sent in a quick ball to Albino, who made no mistake from six-yards as he finished with a deft placement.

Then, Albino could have scored another, only if he was quick to head goalwards with only the rival custodian at his mercy from a well-measured cross by Sunny.

With eight minutes to go, Albino worked hard and headed in a Nevin Pereira cross to complete his brace.

At St Cruz ground, Sesa and Vasco Sports Club played out a goalless draw. Meanhwile,

At Duler Stadium, Salcete Football Club came strongly in the second session as they rallied from two goals down to share points with Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao in a 2-2 draw in a GFA under-20 Taca Goa Second Division football league match.

Taleigao got off to a dream start as they took the lead in the eighth minute through Kalpesh Gadekar. Three minutes later, Suraj Hadkankar doubled Taleigao’s lead with a powerful strike.

Salcete were a subdued lot in the first session but crawled their way back in the second half as Velito D’Souza and Imamsab Guledgudda’s 61st and 69th minutes goals helped them secure a point.
