Salgaocar’s slow progress against Dempo; Alcon MCC take 26 run lead over Geno

PANJIM: Alcon MCC took a 26-run lead over Geno SC while Salgaocar CC scored 291 runs against Dempo CC on the opening day of their three-day matches in the second round of Goa Cricket Association’s Goa Premier League 2022-23.

In all, 20 wickets fell on the Day 1 at GCA Academy ground, Porvorim, where Alcon MCC elected to bat first. They were bowled out cheaply for 86 runs in 24.3 overs. In reply, Geno SC did not fare much better, but they were successful in taking a 76-run lead before being all out for 162 runs in 41.5 overs.

 Alcon MCC in their second essay batted superbly to end the day on 102 for no loss with opener Prathamesh Gawas not out on 53 off 66 balls, having hit eight fours and one sixer, while other opener Sumiran Amonkar remained unbeaten on 48 off 66 balls, which comprised seven boundary-hits.

Earlier, Udit Yadav of Geno emerged the most successful bowler, picking up 6 wickets for 20 runs. In a shambolic scorecard for Alcon MCC, No 9 batter Vedant Naik with 21 runs, was their highest run-getter. Alcon MCC’s captain Darshan Misal (5/57) and Keith Pinto (5/59) shared the wickets, while Vaibhav Naik was the top-scorer for Geno with 59 runs (75balls; 7×4, 1×6).

At GCA ground, Sanguem, Dempo Cricket Club won the toss and elected to field. Salgaocar captain Deepraj Gaonkar (67) and opener Amogh Desai (53) combined for a 91-run third-wicket partnership to provide the initial impetus to their innings after a quick loss of two wickets. Most of the middle-order batters got a start but they failed to make a big score. Dishanq Misquin made a patient 41 while Ayush Verlekar contributed 37 runs and in the process, they stitcheda stand of 65 runs for the fifth wicket. At stumps, Salgaocar were 291/9 with Amulya Pandrekar (21) and Vijesh Prabhudesai (11) being the not out batters at the crease.

Dempo’s Vikas Singh (3/96), captain Lakshay Garg (2/32) and Fardin Khan (2/52) were amongst the main wicket-takers.
