Saligao Sporting club registered a 1-0 win over Betalbatim Sports Club in the inaugural match of 3rd Colormax Imperial Rolling Trophy football tournament organized by United Club of Nerul and sponsored by Jaysingh L. Rane, Pilerne, at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro stadium, here on Wednesday.
The all-important goal for Saligao Sporting came in the 10th minute through medio Uday Naik, whose blistering 25-yard shot crashed into the far corner of the net.
Betalbatim did try to wipe out the one-goal deficit, as their stopper back Desmond Fernandes moved in front to strengthen the attack, but the last line of Saligao defense marshalled by Niazi Shaikh and Anil Naik alongwith goalkeeper Parsappa Harijan were unbeatable.
At the breather, UC Nerul’s club officials introduced the chief guest Anand Shettigar to the players and match officials.
