MAPUSA: Saligao Sporting shot-out Pilerne SC 4-2 via the tie-breaker to emerge winners of the Anjuna Gymkhana Cup, at Anjuna ground.
The full-time score at the end of both the halves was 1-1
Playing the final match under poor playing condition due to heavy rainfall, both the teams struggled to adapt the ground conditions. As the match progressed, both the teams had several goal scoring opportunities missed as well as the goalkeepers did their job to save the goal.
The first-half remain goalless.
Post resumption, Pilerne went on to score through Anson, whose powerful header kept the goalkeeper flat footed with no chance to save. The Saligao players regrouped themselves and few minutes later equalised through Uday Naik, whose corner kick stuck well into the net. In the dying minutes, both the teams had ample of opportunities to score the winning goal but failed.
In the tie-breaker, Swanand, Shaikh, Uday & Michael scored for the winners while Ryan, & Anson scored for Pilerne SC.
The winners went home with a cash prize of Rs 45,000 plus trophy while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 30,000 plus trophy.
