RAIA: Saligao United scored a 6-5 win over Navelim Villagers Union via tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of 16th London Trophy Inter-Village Football Tournament organised by Goa Velha Sports Club at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Tuesday.
Saligao United surged ahead in the 13th minute of play through Shubham Dessai, who placed the ball into the Navelim Villagers Union net lobbing the ball over the onrushing Navelim Villagers Union keeper off a well-taken free-kick by Paulo Joao.
Navelim Villagers Union restored parity towards the fag end of the match through a thunderous effort from Velington Almeida, which had no answer from the Saligao United keeper. The match ended with a 1-1 scoreline.
In the resultant tiebreaker, Saligao United scored through Latesh Mandrekar, Charnel Fernandes, Sydney D’Mello, Tarak Kandolkar and Michael Dias. Shubham Dessai saw his shot hit the side post.
Navelim Villagers Union scored through Aden Pereira, Sadroy Costa, Ronaldo Pereira and Velington Almeida. Nash Pereira shot wide, while Prestly Gomes saw his effort saved by the Saligao United keeper.
Charnel Fernandes cautioned by the Match Referee Melroy D’Silva for reckless tackle.
Shubham Dessai of Saligao United was awarded the man-of-the-match award by Melroy D’Silva, player and member of Goa Velha Sports Club based in the United Kingdom.
