MAPUSA: Saligao United SC had to wait for the penalty shoot-out as they got the better of Football Club of Raia by 6-5 margin in the Candolim Panchayat Cup organised by Candolim SC at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, on Sunday.
In the 10th minute of play, Llyod Cardozo shot was brilliantly saved by Saligao United SC keeper Agustine D’Mello.
Seven minutes later, Charnell Fernandes scored for Saligao United SC by tapping the ball to the right of FC Raia keeper,1-0.
However, Agarisson Fernandes equalised for FC Raia in the 26 minute of play, with a neat placement 1-1.
On crossing over in the 45th minute of play, Trevor Dias’ power-packed shot of a free-kick taken from outside the penalty box crashed into the back of the nylon to once again put Saligao United SC ahead, 2-1.
FC Raia got a penalty in the 55th minute of play which was scored by Llyod Cardozo to make it 2-2.
In the resultant tie-breaker, for Saligao United SC colts Charmen Fernandes, Jay Ganesh, Yash Gaokar and Alino Colaco were on target, while for FC Raia Alancio Lobo, Trevor, Agnelo Fernandes netted.
