PANJIM: Saligao United defeated Milagres SC, Mapusa, 5-4 via the tie-breaker to advance in the Goa Tiger Cup 2022 All-Goa inter-village football tournament, organised by Goa United Sports Academy, across the State, on Wednesday.
At Poriat ground, Calangute, The teams went head-to-head in the match and had several chances, but their strikers lacked sharpness in front of goal.
The penalties were enforced and Saligao converted all their five attempts through Nikhil Naik, Nestor Dias, Paulo Joao, Latesh Mandrekar and Michael Dias.
Edwin Viegas, Stephen Martins, Noel Viegas and Leon D’Souza were on target for Milagres.
At Rosary ground, Navelim, Rossman Cruz SC, Nagoa-Verna, defeated Curtorim Gymkhana 7-6 via the tie-breaker.
Aleeward Mascarenhas gave Curtorim the lead but Joaquim Abranches equalised for Verna in the 43rd minute.
In the resultant penalty shoot-out, Curtorim scored through Joywin, Frazier, Meldino, Amar, Fredy and Vernon. Verna scored through Savio, Joaquim, Fulgancio, Hilton, Imam, Kevin and Roger.
Curtorim goalkeeper Johnson Bhahot was adjudged man-of-the-match.
Meanwhile, at Dr Gustavo Monteiro football ground, Candolim, Morjim Veterans got the better of Joe Cookies Veterans 2-1 Morjim started strongly with constant raids in the rival territory. Joe Cookies felt the pressure and their defence scored an own-goal to give Morjim the lead in the seventh minute.
In the second half, Morjim kept focus and scored their second in the 42nd minute through Bovin Sebastian’s neat finish. However, Joe Cookies pulled a goal back four minutes later through Robin Pinheiro, but it was too late for a comeback as Morjim’s defence remained compact. Joe Cookies’ Bobby Crasto was adjudged man-of-the-match.
