MAPUSA: San Jose de Areal got the better of PVC Parra Sports Club, 6-4 via the tie-breaker, in the inaugural match of the Vagator Soccer (UK Cup), organised by Vagator PYSC, at Vagator-Ozran ground, on Saturday.
It was Parra colts who opened their account in the 20th minute, where Faizal Sheikh’s free-kick had a glance from Warren’s header and the ball travelled to Sankesh Harmalkar who guided the ball into the rival goal to give the lead.
Just five minutes later, the Areal colts equalised through Bersal Vaz who scored from the penalty spot, after a strike from Aggio Antao was handled by Parra’s Mathias Pacheco inside the danger zone.
A couple of minutes before the breather, Areal took the lead when Parra keeper Ritesh blocked a strike from Raymon to find the ball roll to Aslon who tapped the ball home to make it 2-1.
On crossing over, the Areal outfit dominated and had two good attempts at the Parra goal but Aslon Oliveira’s free-kick and Raymon’s strike rebounded off the post.
When it look the visitors had won the match in the closing stages, Faizal Sheikh scored a gem of a goal through his header off a corner from Warren.
In the penalty shoot-out Areal prove to be the better shooters.
