Sandesh Chopdekar scored a brace in the last three minutes to keep Adarsh Yuvak Sangh’s chances of a play-off alive, after overcoming St Sebastian Sports club, Mapusa 2-0 in GFA’S Third Division at Anjuna ground on Monday. The match was goalless at the interval.
Edward Pereira missed a penalty for Sebastian in the 24th minute which could have given them the edge and spurred them onto victory.
Adarsh only turned up with 11 players and struck at the right time as they conserved their energy in the first half with a strong defence resisting Sebastian’s advances.
St Sebastian came out brightly looking to increase the pace of the game at every opportunity.
Adarsh’s Anthony Fernandes was shown the yellow card for a deliberate handball in the box. Edward hit the ball over the bar from the resulting penalty.
After half time, Adarsh started to push forward more and were clearly looking more ambitious.
In the 87th minute Sandesh Chopdekar cleverly beat his man before tucking the ball past the Sebastian goalkeeper.
In the 89th Samir Chopdekar was booked for obstructing Joalan Fernande’s run. With the last kick off the game Sandesh chipped the ball delightfully over the on rushing Sebastian custodian.
PVC Association are leading the group with 7 points. Holiday SC, Arpora, Adarsh Yuvak Sangh and St Sebastian SC, Mapusa have 6 points each although Sebastian have played an extra match. Sai Atar are fifth with 4 points and they have also played an extra match. Guirim Youth Association are yet to open their account.
