Sangolda too good for FC Siolim, make semis grade

Salcete Zone League: St Cruz Society SC and Shiroda Youth Club score big wins

MAPUSA/RAIA: Sangolda Lightning SC proved to be too good for FC Siolim as they trounced them by 7-1 margin, to enter into the semi-finals of GFA’s Third Division Play-Off, at Duler Stadium, here, on Friday.

The highlight of today’s match was a four-goal brilliant blitz from Sangolda’s Arun Naik who bagged the player of the match award from the hands of Bosco Monterio, former Sesa Goa player. Arun Naik opened the floodgates for Sangolda Lightning in the 26th minute with a superb solo effort 1-0. 

Arun was then instrumental in the second goal as his perfect cross saw Uttkarsh Naik connect the ball into the goal, 2-0.

In the added time of the first session Arun netted his brace with another solo effort, 3-0. On crossing over, at the one hour mark, Arun completed his hat-trick, who minutes later pumped in his fourth goal heading the ball into the goal off a corner by Tarak Khandelkar, 4-0.

As the match progressed Tarak Khandelkar and Vishvet Palkar added their names to the scorers list. FC Siolim scored their consolation goal from their medio Sonu Mandrekar.

Meanwhile, in the GFA 3rd Division Salcete Zone League, St Cruz Society SC, Poitomodo, thrashed Varca SC 5-0, at Dramapur ground, on Friday.

Vayne Aden Diniz netted a brace while Viraj Ulhas, Velip Ravesh and Krishna Velip netted a goal each.

At Betalbatim ground, Shiroda Youth Club defeated St Sebastian YC Murida, Fatorda, 4-0. Godwin Vaz, Astal Diniz, Payish Kamat and Jonathan D’Costa netted a goal each for Shiroda Youth Club.
