VASCO: Mast Sanjay Thorat of Dabolim drew with Mast Ayush Ramchandra Shetkar in final round to clinch the 10th Mormugao Taluka Chess Association (MTCA) Chess League title in the rapid tournament, held at Ravindra Bhawan, Baina, under the auspices of Goa Chess Association, recently.
Sanjay remained unbeaten in the tournament and managed to score 6.5 points out of seven rounds. Altogether 66 players participated in the event wherein 26 were rated players from Mourmugoa Taluka in the Swiss League system.
Mast Anirudh Parsekar won the league trophy after winning four matches. And with two matches to go, there are no other players close to his total 4 wins. Other than Sanjay Thorat, Vasant Naik, Bhimappa Harijan, Rudresh Fadte and Ayush Shetkar won a match each.
Anirudh Parsekar bagged the second place after defeating Akhilesh Nigalye in the final round match. Anirudh finished on six points while Navin Morajkar, who also had six points, had to settle for the third place due to his lower tie-breaker score.

The following bagged the 4th to 10th places: Brendan Peroz (5.5), Ayush Shetkar (5.5), Rudresh Fadte (5.5), Yash Paul (5), Datta Kambli (5), Akhilesh Nigalye (5) and Adrian Almeida (5).
Other age category winners: U-15: Vedant Naik (4.5), Ananya Pandye(5); U-13: Sahil Desai (4.5), Charuta Shetye (4); U-11: Utkarsh Ganpule (5), Vrishti Naik (3), U:9 Aarush Pandye (4), Shree Ghonsekar (4); U-7: Shreyansh Sawant (3), Drishti Naik (3) and U-5 Aarush Salagaonkar (3).
Chief guest Dr Dharmendra Prabhudesai from Bogda gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of MTCA President Kishor Bandekar, Mukund Kambli Secretary of MTCA, Pundalik Nayak VP, Namrata Shetye, Sujit Bandekar, Mukesh Adhia and Vazradhar Kalangutkar. Swapnil Hoble was the chief arbiter of the tournament.
